John Henry Group Ltd are a NERS accredited Independent Connections Provider offering a turnkey solution including design, all aspects of civils, traffic management, cabling and connections.
We have over 30 years’ experience as a tier 1 contractor building and maintaining fibre and communications networks for the major providers in the UK.
As an experienced and competent in-house Civils and Traffic Management (TM) operator, Avanti being the TM division in the group, we capitalise on early engagement with stakeholders and local authorities, enabling seamless project delivery as an ICP to independent power infrastructure projects, Solar and BESS installations, EV infrastructure, Wind Farms, data centres, residential developments and DNO infrastructure upgrades.
As well as the many tier 1 fibre installations in our portfolio, we have operated historically as a tier 2 supplier to Balfour Beatty and Morrisons on 11kV, 33kV & 132kV power infrastructure developments (please see case studies below).

Case Studies
Clients Challenge: Excavate 5km route through historic Cambridge City Centre
John Henry Solution: The 5km underground twin circuit 33kV cable route was to connect two 33kv substations, crossing the river Cambridge, major road junctions, and at key locations directional drills were required.
Result: Client’s programme of works remained on schedule due to effective communication and John Henry expertise, Early-stage engagement by John Henry Group towards all key stakeholders ensured that works were performed safely, professionally and disruption to the local community remained at a minimum.
Cable section lengths were planned at 1000m, to minimise jointing costs. To achieve this, the duct had to be installed to a high standard with minimum deviation on-line and level. A challenge given the congested nature of some of the streets and junctions that had to be negotiated.
Clients Challenge: To install dual 33kv circuits underground to reinforce overhead lines
John Henry Solution: Carried out in phases, JHG were responsible for excavation, joint bays and cable laying works for approx. 7km of the route which also included directional drilling under the railway line serving Felixstowe Docks.
Part of the route was through Orwell country park. The park and surrounding area is contained within the at Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape and many areas of the park have been afforded international, and regional designations due to their important wildlife and habitats. Directional drills were also required under the railway line serving Felixstowe docks.
Result: Methods of working were introduced which mitigated the environmental impact of our work. Deep excavation through a water meadow and stream bed, and the reconstruction of a path through ancient woodland, are examples of the complex works required.
Clients Challenge: 11kv circuit to new substation for new housing development.
John Henry Solution: As part of the route was a main access road to Cambridge railway station, traffic management was a key requirement.
Result: JHG were able to take advantage of their in-house TM company AVANTI, to liaise directly with the local authority and ensure the phasing and timelines required were executed successfully.
Clients Challenge: To install a 132kv duct and 1.6km cable route to allow overhead lines to be removed for new housing estate construction.
John Henry Solution: The route was partly constructed through an existing housing estate mindful of bending radii when pulling cables. The section from Prince Phillip to Prince Charles Rd proving extremely problematic with an ‘S’ curve. Careful positioning of joint bays allowed a successful cable pull.
Result: Clients build programme remained on schedule due to the civils expertise and problem-solving attributes of John Henry Group.
